What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is customized set of plastic teeth aligners that gradually straighten teeth without the need for metal or wire. These clear aligners are virtually invisible, removable and won’t interfere with eating, brushing, or flossing your teeth!

Invisalign is suitable for adults and teenagers with crooked, crowded teeth or teeth with uneven or wide spaces. In addition to teeth straightening, Invisalign can help fix common bite problems including overbites, underbites and crossbites.

Smile with confidence

Invisalign (Invisible braces) uses a series of clear, customized, removable appliances called aligners to straighten your teeth. Aligners dont use traditional wires or brackets, instead it uses a series of clear, removable plastic trays called aligners to straighten teeth. These aligners are numbered sequentially and are worn in a designated order. With the treatment progress, your teeth will begin moving gradually to their new positions and they become straighter & straighter over time.

Eat What You Want

With Invisalign, you’re free to eat all of your favorite foods whenever you want, because the aligners are completely removable!

More Beautiful Smile

Straightening your teeth with the virtually invisible Invisalign will make you feel less self-conscious and more confident during and after treatment!

Aligners Are Removable

You can brush and floss normally, preventing tooth decay and gum disease. Some fixed orthodontic appliances like traditional braces can contribute to cavities, bad breath, and gingivitis of oral hygiene is not maintained properly.

Is Invisalign treatment right for you? Simply select the smile below that looks most like yours to find out.

Overbite

An overbite is when your upper front teeth overlap with your lower front teeth. Most people have at least a little overbite.

Underbite

An underbite is when you close your mouth and your lower front teeth are in front of your upper teeth. In many cases, this is actually a problem with your lower jaw being too far forward.

Crossbite

When you close your mouth and some of your upper teeth are sitting inside your lower teeth – rather than on the outside, like they normally would – your doctor calls this a crossbite.

Gap Teeth

When you have extra space between two or more of your teeth, your doctor calls this spacing issues or gap teeth.

Open Bite

If your upper and lower teeth don’t touch when your mouth is closed, your doctor calls this an open bite.

Crowded Teeth

When you don’t have enough room in your jaw for your teeth to fit normally, your teeth can bunch up, overlap and twist, sometimes getting pushed to the front or the back.

Straighter Teeth

You like your smile — but you really want to love it. Maybe you have a special event coming up, or you want the confidence to take on the world at work or at school. Small fixes can make a big difference.

What’s Invisalign?

Invisalign is a clear, invisible, alternative approach to the treatment of irregular teeth without use of traditional braces. Invisalign uses sets of clear aligners or molds which are custom made as per your teeth based on instructions given by an Invisalign certified orthodontist to computer software. Invisalign offers a painless and invisible solution for orthodontic patients whether teens or adults, students or professionals with active social life. It makes use of powerful technology such as i-TERO scanner, smart force attachments and smart track material and doctor’s expertise combine to make a digital plan for shaping your new smile. They are crafted with precision to fit patients’ teeth and are detachable. If you are interested to know more about Invisalign, make an appointment with Smile Orchid Dental for consultation.

What is the procedure for aligner treatment?

After consulting the orthodontist regarding your queries about teeth irregularity problems and expectations of treatment, a detailed clinical evaluation of your teeth and jaw related problems will be done with X- ray radiographs, photographs and digital dental scans after a professional teeth cleaning if required. The treatment progress showing staged teeth movements with a mention of the total number of aligner pairs required to straighten teeth will be shown to you on the computer screen. The orthodontist approves the treatment once you are satisfied with the final predicted positions of your teeth. The aligners are delivered to you at Smile Orchid Dental in a span of 3 weeks to one month from the date of approval by your orthodontist.

At what age can I have aligner treatment?

If your child is young and less than 10 years of age, then a consultation with
orthodontist is mandatory for diagnosing teeth and jaw related problems. If suppose a child has any jaw growth related problems, diagnosing them at an early age can prevent any surgical intervention at a later stage if intervened properly before completion of child’s growth spurt. Invisalign comes with unique lower jaw advancement feature for children with deficient lower jaw as an alternative to traditional functional appliances either removal or fixed which when staged before completion of growth spurt can help normalise the deficient lower jaw size/position while simultaneously correcting teeth irregularities. Teens and adults can be treated for teeth irregularity with Invisalign. Like conventional braces, Invisalign aligners straighten teeth gradually by applying calibrated mild forces on to teeth. These aligners have to be worn for atleast 20 to 22 hours per day except while eating and brushing.

What are the advantages of Invisalign over braces?

  1. There are no food restrictions with aligners as they are removable allowing patients to relish any type of food
  2. Invisalign aligners are clear/transparent and invisible which makes their presence virtually unnoticed
  3. Allows patients to preview end results at the very beginning of treatment
  4. Aligners are removable, thus helping normal brushing and flossing of teeth & proper oral hygiene maintenance
  5. Aligners are smooth, comfortable plastic like materials with no sharp metals
  6. No worrying even if some dental visits are missed, Invisalign keeps moving your teeth to proper positions when doctor’s instructions are being meticulously followed

How noticeable are aligners to others?

Invisalign aligners are clear and almost transparent. They are hard to see generally but they are not totally invisible. You can notice the aligners lightly only in well-lit conditions or too close proximity.

For how many hours should I have to wear aligners in a day?

The aligners must be worn for a period of 22 hours a day at a minimum. The aligners have to be removed while eating and brushing your teeth.

How many numbers of aligners will be needed for the teeth straightening treatment? Is the treatment duration faster or slower than braces?

The number of aligner pairs needed to straighten irregular teeth determines the
treatment duration. It varies from patient to patient depending on severity of teeth mal- alignment. All queries regarding treatment will be explained in detail by our orthodontist after a complete clinical examination. Aligners can be faster than braces in certain cases as multiple teeth movements can be accomplished simultaneously provided they are worn adequately as instructed by our orthodontist.

Do aligners cause any discomfort?

Whenever a new set of aligners is worn, there is mild discomfort which lasts for the first few hours. This is perceived as mild pressure on the teeth by most patients. It disappears as the teeth adapt to the new aligners. They are very patient friendly unlike traditional braces and wires which can hurt lips.

Are there any dietary restrictions with aligners?

Absolutely No..!!! There are no dietary restrictions while wearing aligners, unlike conventional braces. This is one of the biggest advantages of aligners. You can relish whatever you like as you can remove the aligners and eat comfortably. Aligners have to be removed while eating. Though liquids can be consumed with aligners, it’s better to remove them while drinking.

How long each set of aligner pairs have to be worn?

Each set of aligners must be worn for a period of 22 hours a day at a minimum. The aligners have to be removed while eating and brushing your teeth. Switching over to the subsequent pair may be have to be done once in a week or 10 days or 2 weeks as decided and instructed by our orthodontist. If in any case aligners are lost, you must report to the Smile Orchid dental team and arrangements will be done accordingly.

How frequent will be the follow-up visits with aligners?

After your first visit, it’s better you follow-up after a week before switching over to the next set of aligner/tray just to countercheck if your teeth are tracking as anticipated. Once monitored, you must visit the orthodontist at Smile Orchid Dental atleast once in every 3- 5 months during the course of treatment for follow- up. This is done to ensure that the teeth movements are tracking as predicted by the software and your oral hygiene maintenance is proper. You will be reminded about these follow-up visits by the team at Smile Orchid Dental. For those abroad or missing follow-up visits can keep their progress updated to the team and stick to the plan as advised by our orthodontist.

Are aligners very expensive?

The aligner cost varies based on the severity of teeth irregularity and the number of aligner trays/molds required for straightening your teeth. A detailed clinical examination with digital dental scan of your teeth, X-ray radiographs and teeth as well as face photographs will be done by our orthodontist. With the orthodontist’s instructions to the aligner software, you will be intimated about the exact number of trays needed for your teeth straightening. The cost of Invisalign aligners is very much affordable at Smile Orchid Dental. Patients usually prefer this option considering the advantages of aligners over braces. With aligner treatment your lifestyle is least affected.

What are the instructions to be followed when wearing aligners? How do I maintain the aligners?

  1. Brushing two times a day (morning once & at night time before sleep) is mandatory to check plaque accumulation over teeth. Using any mouthwash after brushing is beneficial but in no way is substitute for brushing. You must brush and floss your teeth before you wear the aligners.
  2. A soft brush can be used to clean the aligners.
  3. Remove aligners while brushing, eating and for any sugary drink.
  4. Rinse aligners with water whenever you remove them. Do not use hot water to clean aligners.
  5. Drink plenty of water so that oral cavity remains hydrated and lessens chances of bacterial build up.
  6. Place aligners in the box provided when they are removed so that they are protected safe.
  7. Frequently rinse with cold water to reduce any discomfort during initial hours of aligner wear and drink plenty of fluids to reduce any soreness of lips, cheeks or throat.
  8. Practice insertion and removal of aligner trays/sets in front of mirror during initial days to have better control.
  9. Stick on to the schedule (weekly/10 days/biweekly) of retainer wear as instructed by our orthodontist.
  10. Wear aligners/trays minimum for 22 hours per day.
  11. Use chewies along with aligners to fasten your teeth movements.
  12. Report immediately to the dental office if aligners are lost or broken.
