Dental Sealants

PIT AND FISSURE SEALANTS

Morphology / shape of tooth plays important role in dental decay. Usually back teeth are prone to decay than front teeth. Teeth with deep pits and fissures (natural grooves present in teeth) are highly prone to decay as food gets lodged in them. These food accumulations are difficult to remove with normal brushing.

Pit and fissure sealants are highly recommended for children who are at high risk for dental decay, dry mouth, children with physical and mental impairment, those under orthodontic treatment & medications for systemic illness. Children with greater experience of dental caries in primary dentition are equally vulnerable to dental caries in permanent teeth.
